Monday Morning Photo – Abandoned Boats in Djibouti

Old ships at the port in the harbor in Djibouti.

Djibouti City is not necessarily beautiful as it is a port surrounded by wasteland. However, as with any urban environment, there are scenes that merit stopping the car. Whether it’s the daily life of a marketplace or the still of abandoned boats in a shallow harbor, certain scenes give character to a place.

Djibouti has become an extremely busy port as most cargo headed to landlocked Ethiopia arrives in this small country. Ships like the ones above have largely given way to tankers and large vessels as a result.

Very cool shot – I love how you managed to capture the harbour. I would be in paradise being able to explore abandoned boats!

Great shot! Not the best of a beautiful place I agree but somehow the abandoned boats have something charming about them…

I always wonder why they leave boats in the water if they are abandoned. I understand owners using it as a dump, but why doesn’t the local governments clean it up? I have taken pictures of abandon boats on my travels.
