A sure sign of the change of season is a colorful leaf in the grates of a grill at a park. No more Sunday cookouts until the spring, no more birthday parties under the shade until the weather turns for the better again in several months.
Fall is an ideal time to visit southern New England, as the cold temperatures tend to arrive in November. When the rain holds, the weather is perfect for hiking, football and long drives. The grills, however, are relegated to tailgates in parking lots, trading foliage for asphalt.
