An early morning boat ride is always my preferred method of exploring a lake. The hours just after sunrise are ideal for photographing the birds and witnessing life near the shore. The ability to have the captain to cut the motor is a big plus for anyone hoping to capture the view.
Like much of Ethiopia, the backdrop of Awassa (also spelled Hawassa) is marked by the varied terrain of the Rift Valley. As the image above shows, the change from calm waters to steep hills can be abrupt – exactly the the type of contrast I enjoy experiencing and photographing.
