Hotel Review: U232 Hotel in Barcelona, Spain

The anticipation had been building ahead of my return to Barcelona. After an absence of nearly three years, I was interested to see how the city had changed and also to explore some new areas. My base this time was U232 Hotel in L’Eixample. When I’m in a pedestrian-friendly city like Barcelona, I need to stay someplace very comfortable with attentive guest service – U232 was perfect in both respects.

U232 is located a five-minute taxi ride from the Sants train station and a block from the Hospital Clinic metro stop. The Avinguda Diagonal, which leads to the more heavily touristed areas, is only a few minutes on foot from the hotel doors. While this location is quite convenient, you truly feel like part of the neighborhood when walking the nearby streets, as U232 is just far enough from the well-trodden path.

My room at U232 was immaculately clean and an ideal spot for me to plan my daily itinerary and pop in for a few minutes of relaxation between walks. The room’s private terrace was on the back of the building, which meant calm throughout the day. The bathroom was sleek with black marble walls.

The rooftop terrace of U232 merits visits at various points of the day. I was sure to get up in time for the sunrise and it did not disappoint. In the warmer months, lounge chairs allow sunbathers space to stretch out in the middle of the Catalan capital.

My favorite spot in U232 was the lobby bar. This is where I spent an hour or two after sunset going over my notes, catching up on emails and enjoying a vermouth (a must in Barcelona) or some superlative wine from the Penedes region.

The staff at U232 was very welcoming and was focused on ensuring that the guests have a nice stay. Barcelona is a busy city and the service was oriented to assist visitors like me who are juggling a few things at once. I’ll be back at U232 whenever I return to Barcelona, which I hope is very soon.

Glad you like it, Manouk – it’s a great option for Barcelona.

I often think that it’s not always easy to find great Barcelona hotels at reasonable prices – I went many years ago as a student and we booked a 3 star but it ended up being a total dive and looked rather like a prison cell so I’m determined to stay somewhere nicer next time like U232 next time!

Hi Shikha – Having a comfy spot to return to at the end of each day is a must for me when I travel. Makes everything else so much easier. Hope you get back to Barcelona soon!

Nice–especially the private terrace. I’ll keep this in mind for when I’m in Spain in May.
